7 Signs You Need a Gut Reset

The gut is deeply connected to the entire body, including your brain, hormones, and immune system. There are many surprising signs that suggest your gut is in need of a reset. Here are a few things to look for:

1. You are bloated, crampy, and gassy.

Even though it happens to all of us, it is uncomfortable and occasionally embarrassing. It is not uncommon to have some gas and bloating after eating, but if it is chronic it means you have an underlying digestive condition.

The cause of bloat, cramps, and gas can vary, but essentially your digestive tract is not metabolizing food correctly. This may be due to low stomach acid, food sensitivities, dehydration, an overgrowth of bad bacteria, lack of good bacteria, too much sugar, lack of nutrition, or a hormonal issue. The good news is a few small changes can easily relieve some of your symptoms!

2. You’re skin is going crazy

Do you struggle with acne, eczema, psoriasis or rosacea? Is your skin is dry and flaky? You may be surprised to learn that these conditions stem from digestive issues.

The skin is our largest organ of elimination. If you have a buildup of toxins in your gut, they are excreted as inflammation, redness, and breakouts. Additionally, if your digestive system is struggling to break down food, you may be not getting skin-loving vitamins such as A, C, and D.

Some skin issues, such as eczema, and psoriasis, mean an untreated food allergies.

By working on your digestive health, you can get the glowing, vibrant completion you’ve always desired.

3. You can’t seem to lose weight

Do you ever wonder how someone can live off French fries and not gain a pound? Well that largely has to do with their gut bacteria. The bacteria in the gut play a big role in regulating the rate of our metabolism. They are responsible for the extraction of calories and nutrients from food and the foods you crave.

Different species of bacteria will convert the same foods into different products.  This means that if you have a harmful balance of gut bacteria, they convert even healthy foods into compounds that increase fat storage and insulin resistance. Healthy gut bacteria convert our foods in to compounds that help burn fat.

If you want to lose weight, you need to make sure your gut is working for you.

4. You often get sick.

Our intestines contain more immune cells than the rest of our body. If your gut is out of balance, your body cannot fight the foreign invaders that cause illness. If you want to boost immunity, you need a healthy gut first.

5. You feel tired, foggy, run down.

It is pretty simple – if your gut is not breaking down food properly then you are not getting the energy and nutrition you need from it. Chronic fatigue syndrome is connected to having less-diverse bacteria in your digestive tract.

To feel more energetic, you need to make sure your gut is in tip-top shape.

6. You’re anxious, moody or depressed.

The good bacteria in your gut produce hundreds of neurochemicals that the brain uses to regulate processing, learning, memory and mood. Gut bacteria produce about 90-95% percent of the body’s supply of serotonin. Some beneficial bacteria can influence GABA (a chemical that helps you feel calm) receptors in the brain.

Anyone who experience mental health struggles should take a good look at their gut.

7. You have autoimmune Issues.

Autoimmune disorders like Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, occurs when we don’t have enough good bacteria and we have too much bad bacteria (also called dysbiosis). The bad bacteria produce chemicals that damage the lining of our digestive tract. At the same time, when we lack good bacteria, certain chemicals in our food don’t get converted properly. This means these unconverted chemicals leak through the damaged gut cell walls and into the blood stream. Our immune cells then attack these chemicals causing more damage resulting in inflammation and all other sorts of problems.

Treating the gut is fundamental in treating most auto-immune conditions.
